BEV becomes UN-GGCE partner 11.02.2025 - As of February 2025, the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying - BEV is officially a partner of the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence (UN-GGCE).

Launched in June 2024, the United Nations GGCE partnership program aims to recognize the exceptional commitment and significant achievements of member states, universities and organizations to the science of geodesy and to strengthening the global geodesy supply chain.

This partnership highlights BEV's achievements in the field of geodesy. By analyzing various geodetic space techniques such as GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System, formerly known as GPS) and VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry), BEV is making an important contribution to the implementation of highly accurate continental and global reference systems.

Global reference systems form the basis for applications such as satellite navigation, risk management in the event of natural disasters or autonomous driving and are therefore a critical infrastructure for every economy.

In addition, the BEV manages the Coordination Office of the Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS), which is a joint network of geodesists working worldwide to observe and monitor the System Earth. GGOS enables and facilitates the creation and exchange of Earth observation data, which is necessary for a better understanding of changes to the Earth, such as those caused by climate change.

This partnership is an important step in raising awareness of the importance of geodesy and its role in society. Further information can be found on the GGCE website.
